Robert Donald Dedmon

Robert Donald Dedmon
1932 - 2023

Over Christmas, we lost a dear member of the CF Parks family. Don Dedmon (known as Donnie by our family and friends) was an instrumental part of our company and the pillar of our family. I first met Donnie as a youngster, he as Circulation Manager of The Salisbury Post, and myself as a new paper carrier with a route of my own. Never in my dreams would I believe that years later I would marry his beautiful daughter Lynne, and he proceed to be a bedrock of our staff for years to come.

Donnie was an easy man to talk to, always stopping to talk to anyone and offering a hand if they needed it. His character and integrity proceeded him in everything he did. He was married to a beauty queen wife, the lovely Rose. Together they raised Lynne and Leslie and were married for over 70 years and were always together, even sharing a room at The Laurels nursing home. This would have been the first Christmas apart in nearly 75 years, but by the grace of God, now they are together for eternity.

Over the years I learned many valuable business and life lessons from Don…and as a hard charging determined business owner, some came at my expense. His contributions to our company are immeasurable, his sprit can never be replaced.

As we sat with him on Christmas Eve trying to figure out our Christmas plans, Lynne and Leslie held his hands and Lynne encouraged him to go now and be with Rose. His breathing slowed and he took his last breath, leaving this earth the way he lived in it for 91 years…with grace and dignity. I can only hope to be half the man he was, and as the tears roll down my face as I type, I smile...for I am so very lucky to have had him in my life.

The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Novant Hospital, and in particular the ICU staff. My last lesson learned from our beloved Donnie was…Live Brilliantly in all you do, as time surely flies.

We hope you had a Merry Christmas and wish you the very best in 2024!
